Norman Nault, M.B.A. is an enrolled member of the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. In his professional career he has held a number of increasingly responsible positions in the areas of affordable housing, community lending, commercial real estate development and management consulting. Several of these positions have been executive level positions. As a business professional he has managed or consulted to businesses from startups to mature businesses from a range of industries. Most of his work has been with Tribes, Native American Organizations or Alaskan Native Corporations.
Previously he was a vice president with Washington Mutual in Seattle, WA. (In 2006, Washington Mutual was ranked 99 within the FORTUNE 500.) As a community lending loan officer he was responsible for lending to non-profit organizations and housing authorities for both multifamily affordable housing developments and "mixed use" housing/office/retail developments in four western states.
In the mid 1990's he was the Executive Director of the largest Indian Housing Authority in the HUD ONAP Northwest region. As Executive Director he managed a housing authority with 683 dwelling units, 80+ employees and an asset base of $52 Million. In 1996 he served on the Federal - Tribal NAHASDA Negotiated Rulemaking Committee, which wrote the regulations governing HUD funded tribal housing programs. As a management consultant he has advised some of the largest Indian Housing Authorities including the Navajo and Oglala Sioux.
Previously he was the Controller/Property Manager for the Alaskan Native Corporation Shee Atika, Inc. Shee Atika's business operations included: financial investments, a timber harvesting/marketing subsidiary, the Shee Atika Lodge (hotel), and commercial/office/retail property development. One of his major projects was managing all phases of the redevelopment of a four-story hotel into office/retail space. Shee Atika's assets were about $50 Million.
He attended the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. In 1984 he completed his B.S. Degree in Fisheries, with concentrations in Salmon and Shellfish aquaculture. In 1987, he attained his Masters degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and International Business.
